Volunteer Oportunities

Food Pantry

Friend, Inc. currently operates the Northeastern Berks Food Pantry. We serve residents of northeastern Berks County which includes the boroughs of Kutztown, Lyons, Fleetwood, and Topton and the townships of Albany, Greenwich, Maxatawny, Maidencreek, Richmond, Ruscombmanor, Rockland, District and Longswamp. The pantry is held on the third Thursday of every month. Volunteers are needed to sort food donations, stock shelves, clean workspace, and distribute food to clients.

Money Management/Budget Counseling

Volunteers are needed to help families manage their income. Upon completion of training, volunteers will provide budget counseling to our clients. This volunteer task requires an ongoing commitment. Budget counseling covers such topics as the psychology of spending, differentiating between needs and wants, developing a spending pattern, understanding credit issues, scams, and other topics.

Annual Benefit Auction

The Annual Benefit Auction, held each spring, is one of our largest fundraisers. Individuals, organizations and businesses donate various items to be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to Friend, Inc. It’s an evening of fun, food, and fellowship. Volunteers can contact and pick up auction donations from merchants, assist with clerical tasks, help set up and break down the hall and work the evening of the event.

Christmas Cheer

Each year at Christmas time, Friend, Inc. and area businesses, churches and organizations make Christmas special for local families by donating holiday dinner boxes, turkeys, and gifts of clothing and toys to the children. This project is truly what Christmas is all about - GIVING! Donations of children’s gifts, senior citizen’s gifts, turkeys, Holiday Dinner boxes, and many other items are always welcome and needed at this time.

Bowl-a-Thon

Our annual Bowl-a-thon is held each spring. Help us plan the event, set up a team, gather sponsors, and spend an afternoon bowling!

Salvation Army Kettle

Also during the Christmas Season, Friend, Inc., as a Salvation Army Service Unit, sets up a kettle outside local businesses. If you have an hour or two to spare to ring the bell, we could use your help.

Office Volunteer

With a small staff and budget, we can use your help in the office with the following projects: serving as receptionist Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; assisting with data entry; staffing our PA CareerLink Outreach Point (initial off-site training required); helping with mass mailings and other miscellaneous office tasks.
