Fundraising

Friend, Inc. is an exclusive charitable organization which provides residents of Northeast Berks County with social services that strengthen the lives of families and individuals.

A substantial proportion of funding comes from a lasting partnership with the United Way of Berks County. Friend relies on local businesses, municipalities, and churches to supply some of the funding. Individuals in and out of the community also donate funds or volunteer their time on a regular basis.

Some of the funds required to finance Friend are raised via charity events such as the annual auction. A variety of in–kind donations, especially for the food pantry and holiday cheer events, are accepted.

Annual Benefit Auction

The Annual Benefit Auction, held each spring, is one of our largest fundraisers. Individuals, organizations and businesses donate various items to be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to Friend, Inc. It’s an evening of fun, food, and fellowship. Volunteers can contact and pick up auction donations from merchants, assist with clerical tasks, help set up and break down the hall and work the evening of the event. Christmas Cheer

Each year at Christmas time, Friend, Inc. and area businesses, churches and organizations make Christmas special for local families by donating holiday dinner boxes, turkeys, and gifts of clothing and toys to the children. This project is truly what Christmas is all about–GIVING! Donations of children’s gifts, senior citizen’s gifts, turkeys, Holiday Dinner boxes, and many other items are always welcome and needed at this time.

Friend Fest

In efforts to raise money for our small non–profit social service agency, Friend Fest also known as “Pints to Fight Poverty” was introduced. The concept is similar to any beer or wine festival. Many local breweries and wineries mainly in Pennsylvania will showcase their products to hundreds of residents, visitors, and community members participating. Participants must be 21 and above. Participants will have a wristband only if they are 21 and have purchased a ticket. All proceeds go to ending poverty in rural Northeastern Berks County.
